You got my Wonderboy in my Adventure Island! You got my Adventure Island in my Wonderboy!
Remember that game where you could ride a skateboard through tropical islands while chucking stone axes at innocent snails?
No, not Adventure Island you ass. The game was Wonderboy - but yes, you probably played it as Adventure Island on the NES. But the SMS faithful (all 3 of us) knew deep down in our pants that Wonderboy was the original island gangster.
Tonight’s Hyperstick Gamenight might be our biggest yet - with the main event taking place OUTSIDE on a 120’ screen, FREE beer provided by Heineken and rumors of Elijah Wood playing against our very own LaserDreams in a MVC3 match that will undoubtedly be epic.
Sega Europe’s blog reports that Sega Vintage Collection icoming to PSN and Wii VC very soon. Before you roll your eyes and say “Great, another Sonic collection”, you be wise to read the list below, because you’ll notice some interesting bits of what made Sega great back in the day.
Monster World IV (Genesis/Mega Drive) Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Arcade) Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis/Mega Drive) Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System) Wonder Boy in Monster World (Genesis/Mega Drive)
You see those first 2 in bold? Yeah you do. MW4 never saw the light of day here, and either did the arcade version of WB.
Now, my gut tells me that the VC version will be the version to own, as they have been the home to perfect emulations. PSN… not so much. (I’m looking at you Backbone.)
Sega, you have done a great thing today. Don’t mess it up.
That’s right! We’re headed to the heavenly gates of the Electronic Electronic Electronic show, otherwise known as E3. More details on that as the weeks fly by, but in the meantime you can look at these maps and imagine us in the Sega booth talking about Phantasy Star 5: Noah’s Folly.
If you’re reading this blog, chances are you like video games. Most gamers are content with the next Gears of War - but a lot of you REALLY like games and see past the big budget titles. You would rather play Moon Diver instead of another round of Call of Duty. Instead of wasting your money on Homefront, you happily give your money over to games like Bullet Soul and Sword & Sworcery.
And if you dive even deeper into gaming, you will eventually discover indy games.
Along comes Bit Collective with the Winnitron 1000 arcade cab. The Winnitron 1000 is a free-to-play arcade cabinet designed to showcase the awesomeness of indy gaming - all in an effort to inspire more indy developers to create more indy games. It’s a never ending cycle of winning.
The Winnitron 1000 magically tours the Earth, visiting shows like PAX and the upcoming No Quarter show in NYC this week. If you happen to be in the area, stop by and check it out.
It’s an arcade full of awesome games you never played before - and it’s FREE. Stop being stupid.
No man on Earth has ever had such POWER. He's the POWER LORD!
Anyone who grew up in the 80’s with balls knew who Adam Power was. He was the man with so much ridiculous power his body turned turned inside out.
Actually, I doubt anyone remembers the Power Lord - it was a bomb, and I was the only kid on my block who had the figures. And the whole body turning inside out thing was how I interpreted his special power of… turning blue and veiny.
Anyway - Atariprotos.com got their hands on a beta version of the Power Lords game for the 2600 a while back. The game looks pretty decent, and they give a nice walk through here:
